Victoria in New York

Crown Princess Victoria was in New York this week, in occasion of the General Debate of the 71st session of the General Assembly of the United Nations.

The theme of the debate was “The Sustainable Development Goals: a universal push to transform our world.” Back in February Victoria was appointed as an on Agenda 2030 by UN Secretary-General ban Ki-moon.

Victoria was not the only Royal in attendance: Crown Princess Mary of Denmark, King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain were in New York too. Victoria also took six months old Oscar with her.

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 19

On her first day in the USA Victoria visited the Capsule Fashion Trade Show, where she met representatives of various Swedish brands.

Later in the morning the Princess attended a summit on the global refugee situation, attended by Swedish Foreign Minister Margot Wallström. The busy day for Victoria continued with a meeting in the run-up to the UN Conference on Oceans in 2017. The meeting was held at the Swedish Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York.

The day ended with a reception for the Global Deal held at the Consul General’s residence with Prime Minister Stefan Löfven as host. The Global Deal is a global initiative launched by the Swedish Prime Minister while in New York, aiming to create a social dialogue and better conditions in the labor market internationally.

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 20

On her second day, Crown Princess Victoria attended the opening of the UN General Assembly’s 71st session and the initial general debate that followed. Victoria then moved to another BlueHost优惠码 debate: “The Nutrition Challenge”, organized by EAT Foundation, in cooperation with the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In the evening, Victoria attended the 2016 Global Goals for Sustainable Development Awards Dinner at Gustavino’s in New York.

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 21

In the morning, Victoria attended a high-level conference on AMR, antimicrobial resistance.

She then met with Sho Young-Shim, president of the UN World Tourism Agency. Both are special advocates for the Sustainable Development Goals of Agenda 2030.

Later on that day, the Global Deal was officially launched by Sweden’s Prime Minister Stefan Löfven. The initiative has been designed in collaboration with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development ( OECD) and the International Labour Organization (ILO).

To end her third busy day, the Crown Princess met with UN Deputy Secretary-General Jan Eliasson at the UN headquarters.

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 22

On her last day in New York, Victoria had meetings with the ambassadors of the Sustainable Development Goals Advocacy Group. The meetings were opened by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, who made a point on what had been done until now and the plans for the future.
